Accra High Court: Jurors withdraw services over 8 months unpaid allowances

Jurors at the Accra High Court have stopped working. They announced this on Monday, June 2. The reason is non-payment of their allowances for eight months.

The jurors tried several times to get their payments. However, these attempts have not been successful. They informed the Acting Chief Justice about their absence but received no assurance on payment.

Joshua Alorgbey, a spokesperson for the group, spoke to Citi News. He said the situation shows a disregard for their welfare and financial security. Without immediate payment, they cannot continue attending court proceedings.

Alorgbey stated, “We are in the eighth month without pay.” He added that they officially notified the Acting Chief Justice about their strike starting June 2.

He mentioned having multiple meetings with the Acting Chief Justice and Judicial Service since October 2024. Unfortunately, these meetings were often postponed. With the legal year ending soon, he questioned when they would receive their money.

Alorgbey expressed frustration over continuing to finance their own attendance in court.
