The Accra High Court has resolved a 32-year labour dispute between the Industrial and Commercial Workers Union (ICU) and the Textile, Leather and Garment Union (TEGLU) at Akosombo Textiles Limited (ATL).

The court ruled that ICU holds the majority membership and ordered TEGLU to hand over the bargaining certificate.

Additionally, GH¢425,000, which had been frozen during the dispute, will be shared between the two unions.

The ruling, effective June 19, 2024, has restored stability among workers.

ICU General Secretary Morgan Ayawine called for unity, while ATL ICU Local Secretary Joseph Botwe assured renewed dedication to revitalizing ATL’s textile production.

Established in 1967, ATL was once a major employer with 1,600 workers before the prolonged crisis.
