Accra Mayor meets hawkers as AMA prepares for major decongestion exercise

Michael Kpakpo Allotey, the Chief Executive of the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA), is engaging with street hawkers. This is happening in the Central Business District (CBD). A major decongestion exercise starts on Tuesday, May 20.

This initiative aims to restore order and improve sanitation in Accra. Kpakpo Allotey toured key trading areas on Saturday. He was accompanied by the Municipal Chief Executive for Korle Klottey.

They visited Kinbu Road, Kojo Thompson Road, Sempe Road, and Kantamanto. These areas are identified hotspots for street trading.

Kpakpo Allotey urged hawkers to help clean up the city. He emphasized that everyone wants a better environment. Cooperation is essential for achieving this goal.

He mentioned an upcoming 24-hour economy policy. This policy will create new selling opportunities overnight. However, he asked vendors to stay off the pavement during the cleanup effort.
