Veteran journalist Kwesi Pratt has emphasized that accused individuals are under no obligation to assist investigators in proving their guilt, reaffirming the fundamental principle of fair trial.
Speaking on Metro TV, Pratt reminded journalists and the public of the legal presumption of innocence, cautioning against prejudicial statements on cases likely to end up in court.
“We were taught in our early days in journalism that when you know a matter is likely to go to court, you cannot make prejudicial statements. It would amount to straightforward contempt,” he stated.
He also addressed reports of legal counsel being denied access to their client, stressing that such concerns should be resolved in court, as the judiciary remains the proper forum for legal disputes.
