ActionAid Ghana has urged the government to strengthen policies against illicit financial flows.
The organization believes this is vital for mobilizing domestic resources. It can also boost investor confidence and enhance economic development.
John Nkaw, Country Director of ActionAid Ghana, spoke to the media. He addressed these issues during the National Civil Society Dialogue on Financing for Development (F4D).
He emphasized that stopping revenue leakages could free up funds for key sectors. These include infrastructure, education, and healthcare.
Nkaw noted that excessive debt payments reduce social infrastructure investments. This affects new schools, hospitals, and water sources for rural women.
He called for progressive taxation policies. The rich should pay more taxes to support gender-responsive public services.
Additionally, he stressed the need for concrete measures against illicit financial flows. Many of Ghana's resources are being taken out of the country.
By addressing this issue, the government can increase investment in agriculture and other sectors.
