Retired Colonel Festus Aboagye has alleged that former Bank of Ghana (BoG) Governor, Dr. Ernest Addison, had set up electronic surveillance devices in his residence to monitor the central bank’s activities remotely.
His claim follows a controversial search of Dr. Addison’s home by National Security operatives, which has drawn criticism from Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin.
Afenyo-Markin condemned the operation, alleging that personal belongings, including jewellery and money belonging to Dr. Addison’s wife, were taken during the search.
However, Rtd. Col. Aboagye insists that the raid was based on intelligence suggesting the ex-governor had secretly linked his home surveillance to the BoG.
Speaking to TV3, Aboagye stated that his checks within National Security confirmed suspicions that Dr. Addison had installed “backdoor electronic devices” for surveillance.
He further claimed that the removal of Dr. Addison’s CCTV camera during the search was not an act of destruction but the dismantling of a “monitoring wire” allegedly connected to the central bank.
Neither Dr. Addison nor his legal team has officially responded to the claims.
The controversy surrounding the search continues to raise concerns about the state’s handling of the matter and the implications of the alleged surveillance.
