Adenta Kumi’s arrest was ‘mindless’ – Franklin Cudjoe

Franklin Cudjoe, President of IMANI Africa, condemned the arrest of Alfred Ababio Kumi. Kumi is a youth activist for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and a former parliamentary aspirant. He was arrested by National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) officials on May 23. He faces charges for publishing false news.

Kumi allegedly made false claims on his X account and during a radio interview. These claims relate to a petition he submitted to the President. The petition calls for dissolving the committee investigating the Chief Justice. Kumi alleges misconduct that could compromise the inquiry's integrity.

On May 24, Cudjoe spoke on Channel One TV's The Big Issue. He expressed dismay over how Kumi was treated. Cudjoe questioned why Kumi wasn't simply invited to make a statement instead of being raided by armed personnel.

He said, "I am surprised we are still doing these things." Cudjoe criticized the aggressive enforcement regarding alleged false publications as "mindless." He added, "I don’t know who is pressing certain political buttons, but this is mindless." He believes this act should not reflect on the president at all.
