Vincent Ekow Assafuah, the MP for Old Tafo, confirmed the arrest of Alfred Ababio Kumi. Kumi is also known as Adenta Kumi. Assafuah described the arrest as a troubling dawn raid by armed state operatives.
In a Facebook post on Friday morning, he shared details of the incident. Kumi was taken from his home by eight armed men around 3 AM. Six of these men were masked and carried AK-47 rifles. The other two were in plain clothes.
Assafuah expressed concern over these actions by the government. He believes they threaten free speech and good governance. He used the hashtag #FreeAdentaKumiNow to protest the arrest.
Family sources confirmed that Kumi was picked up at dawn by NIB operatives. The motive behind this operation is still unclear. There has been no official comment from the NIB or the Ministry of National Security.
Recently, Alfred Kumi petitioned President John Mahama to dissolve a committee investigating the chief justice's removal. Kumi, a former parliamentary candidate for Adenta with the NPP, cited misconduct allegations in his petition.
He believes these allegations could compromise the inquiry's integrity. On May 15, 2025, after an inaugural sitting, he claimed Justices Pwamang and Adibu-Asiedu dined with Thaddeus Sory in Accra. They were reportedly overheard discussing matters related to his petition.
