Alfred Ababio Kumi is a youth activist in the New Patriotic Party (NPP). He is also a former parliamentary aspirant. Kumi was arrested by the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) on Friday. He has been charged with publishing false news.
Kumi, known as Adenta Kumi, made claims on his X account and during a radio interview. These claims relate to a petition he submitted to the President. The petition calls for dissolving the committee investigating the Chief Justice.
In his petition, Kumi alleges misconduct that could affect the inquiry's integrity. He claims that on May 15, 2025, after the committee's first meeting, Justices Pwamang and Adibu-Asiedu dined with Supreme Court Justice Yonni Kulendi. They were reportedly seen at Santoku Restaurant in Accra’s Airport Residential Area.
Kumi further alleges they discussed matters related to his petition. The NPP has expressed concerns about Kumi's arrest and detention. Justin Kodua Frimpong, the party's General Secretary, spoke out on Citi Prime News.
He expressed outrage over how Kumi was handled during his arrest. Frimpong believes the arrest is linked to Kumi's recent petition to the President. He stated that they are waiting for an explanation from the NIB regarding this matter.
