Adenta Kumi released following Afenyo-Markin’s intervention

Alfred Ababio Kumi, a youth activist of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has been released. He is also known as Adenta Kumi. His release came after discussions between security officials and Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin.

Kumi was arrested on May 23, 2025. He faced charges for publishing false news. These charges arose from comments he made on X (formerly Twitter) and during a radio interview. The comments were about a petition he submitted to the President of Ghana.

In his petition, Kumi called for dissolving the committee investigating the Chief Justice. He alleged misconduct by judiciary members that could affect the inquiry's integrity. On May 15, 2025, he claimed Justices Pwamang and Adibu-Asiedu dined with Supreme Court Justice Yonni Kulendi at Santoku Restaurant in Accra.

Kumi alleged they discussed matters related to his ongoing petition. This case has drawn political attention due to its impact on judicial independence and freedom of expression. Supporters argue that Kumi's arrest was politically motivated.
