Alfred Ababio Kumi, a member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), was arrested recently. His wife reportedly suffered a miscarriage just hours after his arrest.
The incident occurred when National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) operatives raided their home at dawn last Friday. Sources say the shock and trauma from the arrest affected Mrs. Kumi, who was several weeks pregnant. She is currently receiving medical care at a local health facility and is described as emotionally fragile by family members.
Mr. Kumi's arrest followed a petition he submitted to President John Dramani Mahama. He called for the dissolution of a judicial committee investigating the removal of the Chief Justice. Kumi accused the committee, chaired by Justices Pwamang, Adibu-Asiedu, and Yonni Kulendi, of improper conduct with Thaddeus Sory, counsel for the main petitioner.
Eight NIB operatives conducted the early morning arrest under tight security and without notice. The official reasons for his arrest have not been disclosed yet. This incident has sparked significant political and public reaction due to its tragic impact on Kumi’s family.
