Adentan MP urges bold, non-partisan action on flooding crisis

Mohammed Adamu Ramadan, the Member of Parliament for Adentan, has called for a non-partisan approach to Ghana’s flooding issues. His comments came after severe floods on Sunday, May 18, 2025. These floods caused significant property damage and reportedly claimed at least three lives in Adentan.

During an assessment tour on Monday, May 19, Ramadan spoke to Citi News. He supported government plans to demolish illegal structures on waterways. He urged for decisive action to prevent future disasters.

“It is disheartening,” he said. “We must be intentional and deliberate as a country.” He noted that many problems are self-inflicted. People build on waterways, and when these structures are demolished, it creates further issues.

Ramadan emphasized the need for tough decisions from the government. He believes these decisions may be unpopular but are necessary for long-term benefits. “Every decision has consequences,” he stated.

He added that if there is no flooding in 2026, people will appreciate the actions taken now. “We don’t have to wait until an election year to act,” he said.

Ramadan concluded by stressing the importance of courageous leadership. “Lives can’t be lost consistently because of flooding,” he warned.
