Kwabena Adu-Boahen, the former head of the National Signals Bureau, has been remanded. A High Court in Accra ordered his custody for seven days. This decision was made on Friday, May 2, 2025.
The Attorney General, Dr. Dominic Ayine, requested this action. He alleged that Adu-Boahen tried to interfere with a key witness in his trial. The trial involves accusations of theft and abuse of public office.
Defence lawyer Samuel Atta Akyea challenged these claims. He questioned the credibility of the intelligence report. He also argued that Adu-Boahen could not influence the proceedings.
Justice John Eugene Nyadu Nyante presided over the case. He initially deferred ruling to review the intelligence report privately. After reviewing it, he decided on a one-week remand for Adu-Boahen.
This time will allow the state to prepare witness statements. The judge emphasized balancing due process with protecting the trial's integrity.
In related news, two other accused persons were granted bail. They are Adu-Boahen’s wife, Angela Adjei-Boateng, and Mildred Donkor, a former bank relations officer.
Dr. Ayine informed the court about another investigation involving Adu-Boahen at Ghana Water Limited. This raises the possibility of further legal actions soon.
