Dr. Kojo Asante is the Director for Advocacy and Policy Engagement at CDD-Ghana. He has called for a thorough investigation into claims made by former National Security official Kwabena Adu-Boahene. However, he emphasized that these claims must be backed by credible evidence.
Adu-Boahene wrote a memo to the National Security Coordinator. In it, he alleged that over GH¢8 million was given to opposition parties for logistics in the 2024 elections. The memo also states that GH¢49 million is linked to a criminal case against him. Additionally, it claims GH¢5.1 million was spent on luxury vehicles for the then president-elect.
On May 10, 2025, Dr. Asante spoke on The Big Issue on Channel One TV. He warned that allegations of inducements to state institutions must be taken seriously but need verification first. He said if payments were made to bodies like Parliament for legislation, those claims should be investigated.
Dr. Asante stressed the importance of establishing facts before launching investigations. He also commented on recent protests by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) regarding President John Dramani Mahama’s suspension of Chief Justice Gertrude Torkonoo. He noted that political tension around the judiciary stems from long-standing governance issues.
He traced these issues back to 2013 and highlighted problems with how cases are panelled by the Chief Justice. The lack of limits on justices has led to discussions about bias in petitions among politicians. Dr. Asante warned that if non-legal ways of addressing these issues are not found, they could escalate further.
Adu-Boahene had no choice but to speak out about these matters.
