Kwabena Adu-Boahene, former Director of the National Signals Bureau, has responded to allegations. He is accused of misappropriating GH¢49.1 million during his time in office.
Adu-Boahene wrote a letter to the National Security Coordinator. This letter has been shared in the media. In it, he denied any wrongdoing and explained his actions.
He stated that the funds were not for personal use. Instead, they were used for important national operations through two accounts set up by National Security.
One account was for the Bureau of National Communications and special operations. The other account, named BNC Communications Bureau, had his and his wife’s names on it. This account was meant for sensitive expenditures.
Adu-Boahene claimed these funds supported various activities. These included payments to Members of Parliament and an opposition political party.
He provided specific amounts spent:
- GH¢9.5 million went to ISC Holdings for surveillance systems.
- GH¢6.9 million supported counter-terrorism operations.
- GH¢960,000 was paid as allowances to MPs on one committee.
- GH¢309,000 was paid as allowances to MPs on another committee.
- GH¢8.3 million was given to an opposition party for election equipment.
- GH¢5.1 million went to a presidential aide for luxury vehicles.
Despite investigations and public scrutiny, Adu-Boahene maintains he acted within his duties. He emphasized that urgency guided his decisions at that time.
“I am not making these disclosures lightly,” he wrote. “I do so solely to protect my name.”
