**Adu-Boahene Speaks After Corruption Arrest, Claims Innocence**
Kwabena Adu-Boahene, former Director-General of the National Signals Bureau, has spoken out. He addressed reporters after his arrest for corruption. Adu-Boahene maintains he is innocent of all charges.
He was recently granted reduced bail from GH¢120 million to GH¢80 million. While leaving court in handcuffs, he told Joy News, "I have not been charged with anything yet."
Adu-Boahene faces allegations of embezzling $7 million meant for a defense contract. He insists he is "definitely" innocent and challenged the excessive bail demands.
His wife, Angela Adjei Boateng, is also under arrest. She is believed to be involved in a private company that siphoned state funds. Reports indicate she attempted to destroy evidence during her husband's arrest.
Boateng's bail remains at GH¢80 million with two sureties required. They must report to the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) three times a week and cannot travel.
Adu-Boahene allegedly transferred about GH¢49 million from National Signals Bureau funds into his accounts. He falsely justified these transactions as payments for cyber defense systems.
The government reported an initial payment of GH¢9.5 million for the defense system was made. Following the alleged embezzlement, Adu-Boahene and his wife acquired several properties in Ghana and abroad.
These include a property valued at $1 million and another purchased with an initial cash deposit of $500,000. Investigations revealed they registered around 10 companies under Advantage Solutions Limited for illicit transactions.
If found guilty, they could face up to 25 years in prison. Attorney General Dominic Ayine mentioned he would consider a plea deal for Adu-Boahene once charges are filed.
