Tweneboah Fokuo, the MP for Manso Nkwanta, has defended Kwabena Adu-Boahene. Adu-Boahene is the former boss of the National Signals Bureau (NSB). He wrote a memo to the National Security Coordinator about funds spent during his time in office.
Adu-Boahene's memo has sparked public and political debate. He claimed that over GH¢8 million was given to opposition parties. This money was meant for logistics and equipment for the 2024 elections. He also stated that GH¢49 million, for which he is being prosecuted, funded covert national security operations.
Additionally, Adu-Boahene alleged that GH¢5,135,000 was paid to a special aide of the then President-elect. This payment was for high-end vehicles like a Nissan Patrol Platinum and a Land Cruiser GXR. He accused the Attorney General of “malicious prosecution” against him.
On May 10, Tweneboah Fokuo spoke on The Big Issue on Channel One TV. He criticized those attacking Adu-Boahene’s actions. Fokuo argued that Adu-Boahene had no choice but to release this information.
He mentioned that Adu-Boahene tried to contact Attorney General Dr. Dominic Ayine without success. After facing intense pressure and criticism, he felt compelled to write to the National Security Coordinator as a last resort.
Fokuo noted that Adu-Boahene initially kept this information from his interrogators. He understood its implications for the nation and wanted to protect it. However, after being pushed too far by critics, he decided to go public with his claims.
Fokuo emphasized that Adu-Boahene was driven to this point by external pressures and accusations against him.
