Samuel Atta Akyea is the lead counsel for Kwabena Adu-Boahene. He has denied reports about a plea bargain with the Attorney-General’s Department.
In an interview on Channel One TV, he stated that neither he nor his client initiated any plea negotiations. He questioned the source of these claims, saying, “No, I don’t know whose invention that is.”
Atta Akyea explained that the prosecution has not presented incriminating evidence yet. The witness statements were supposed to be filed on June 2 but were not submitted. He expressed uncertainty about whether they would be filed on June 3.
The State filed witness statements on June 3 in Adu-Boahene's ongoing trial. He faces multiple charges including stealing and conspiracy alongside his wife and their associate.
The witness statements include testimonies from key individuals involved in the case. Adu-Boahene was initially remanded on May 2 for alleged witness tampering.
His lawyer later informed the court of a separate rearrest after the initial remand expired. Atta Akyea emphasized that his clients are confident in their defense.
He noted that they are committed to contesting all charges in court. The court has not ruled on any plea bargain yet; it may be considered later.
On May 26, the Accra High Court instructed the defense team to avoid plea negotiations until full disclosures are made by the prosecution. The Deputy Attorney-General requested more time due to a key investigator's unavailability.
The case has been adjourned to June
