Adu Boahene memo a “smokescreen” to intimidate the state into dropping charges -Bright Simons

Bright Simons, Honorary Vice President of IMANI-Africa, criticized Kwabena Adu Boahene's memo. He called it a smokescreen to intimidate the state. Simons believes the prosecution should continue to reveal hidden operations under national security.

On JOY NEWS NewsFile, he questioned why national security would use a senior spy's name for confidential operations. He also asked about the connection between buying a Lamborghini and bribing MPs.

Simons stated that the Auditor-General is not fit to handle public fund misuse. Recently, Adu Boahene’s legal team released details about the alleged ¢49 million theft.

He claimed that GHC5.1 million was used to buy three vehicles for President John Mahama. The vehicles included two 2024 Nissan Patrols and a 2022 Land Cruiser GXR.

Adu Boahene alleged that this money was paid to a special aide of Mahama. He also claimed that GH¢960,000 was used to pay members of Parliament.

This payment aimed to expedite the passage of the National Signals Bureau Act (2020). Additionally, he accused an opposition party of receiving GHS 8.3 million from the stolen funds for election support.

Currently, Adu Boahene has been remanded by an Accra High Court. He will remain in custody for seven working days while the Attorney General prepares witness statements. The Economic and Organized Crime Office (EOCO) will hold him during this time.
