Lawyer Samuel Atta Akyea announced that his client, Kwabena Adu-Boahene, has been rearrested. Adu-Boahene is the former Director of the National Signals Bureau (NSB). This comes shortly after he was granted bail in a GHS49 million cybersecurity procurement scandal.
Atta Akyea spoke to the press after a hearing at the Accra High Court. He revealed that the new charge involves secured internet services for another state institution. This service was provided to the Ghana Water Company.
He explained that national security supplied gadgets to help monitor pipes remotely. This allows users to see if pipes are being tampered with from their homes.
The lawyer expressed concern about this development. He urged that legal processes should not seem like personal vendettas. He emphasized that Adu-Boahene deserves freedom to defend himself.
This situation follows an order from the Accra High Court. The court directed prosecutors to file all witness statements by May 20, 2025.
Justice John Eugene Nyadu Nyante issued this directive to the Attorney General’s office. He expressed concerns about the personal liberties of those accused, especially Adu-Boahene. Justice Nyante encouraged the Deputy Attorney General to expedite the trial for a swift resolution.
