Adu Boahene’s explanation for allegedly misappropriating GH¢49m not reasonable – Bright Simons

Bright Simons, the Honorary Vice President of IMANI-Africa, criticized former NSB Director-General Kwabena Adu-Boahene. He called Adu-Boahene's explanation for allegedly misappropriating GH¢49 million unreasonable. Simons described it as a serious breach of Ghana’s national security.

Recently, Adu-Boahene's legal team provided a breakdown of the alleged theft. He claimed that GH¢5.1 million was used to buy three vehicles for President John Mahama. This included two 2024 Nissan Patrols and a 2022 Land Cruiser GXR.

Adu-Boahene stated that the money was paid to a special aide of Mahama. He also claimed that GH¢960,000 was used to pay members of Parliament. This payment aimed to expedite the passage of the National Signals Bureau Act (2020).

Additionally, he accused an opposition party of receiving GH¢8.3 million from the alleged stolen funds. This money was supposedly for supporting election results collation.

On JOY NEWS NewsFile, Bright Simons emphasized that Adu-Boahene's actions were unacceptable. He argued that diverting funds without proper authorization violates financial laws. Such actions should be recorded and managed by appropriate authorities.

Simons further stated that corruption undermines national security and must be addressed properly. He viewed Adu-Boahene's memo as an attempt to intimidate the state into dropping charges against him. Simons insisted that prosecution should continue to uncover any hidden operations related to national security.
