Adu-Boahene’s intended prosecution has national security implications – Ex-NSB Lawyer warns

The lawyer for former National Signals Bureau Director-General Kwabena Adu-Boahene has raised concerns. He claims the prosecution of his client could threaten national security.

Samuel Atta Akyea, Adu-Boahene's lawyer, sent a letter to the National Security Council. In it, he warned that pursuing charges against Adu-Boahene may have serious consequences for Ghana’s security.

Akyea stated that this prosecution violates Ghana’s laws. He referenced Act 1030 and Act 1040 in his argument. These acts govern intelligence operations and provide protections for officials.

He noted that the Attorney General's case involves national security issues. The letter also mentioned that Adu-Boahene is currently in custody at EOCO.

Adu-Boahene, his wife Angela Adjei-Boateng, and two others face multiple charges. They are accused of stealing GHc 49 million in state funds. The Attorney General filed 11 charges against them at the High Court in Accra.

An Accra High Court has remanded Adu-Boahene into EOCO custody for seven days. This will allow the Attorney General to prepare witness statements related to the case.
