Traders affected by the Adum fire have met with officials. They spoke with the Ashanti Regional Minister and the Minister for Gender, Children, and Social Protection. The goal was to create a plan for redeveloping the market.
The fire occurred on Friday at the blue light arena in Adum. It quickly spread through a multi-storey commercial building. Shops selling mobile phones, jewelry, clothing, and used goods were engulfed.
The meeting took place at the Ashanti Regional Coordinating Council. It focused on the crisis and traders' specific needs after the fire.
Traders agreed to rebuild their shops themselves. They asked the regional minister for permission to do so.
Hussein Ibrahim, an aide to the regional minister, spoke to Luv FM. He said traders are eager to rebuild but should wait for consultations. These will involve Manhyia Palace and government officials.
He mentioned ongoing structural integrity tests of buildings affected by the fire. Approval for rebuilding will depend on these assessments.
“We want to help them if it’s safe,” Hussein stated. Engineers are checking if buildings can be renovated after being exposed to fire.
After assessments, there will be another meeting with traders. The government is ready to support them in their efforts.
Meanwhile, Nana Boating, chairman of second-hand shoe dealers at Adum blue light, shared good news. They received ¢100,000 from RCC for market redevelopment efforts.
