Member of Parliament for Subin, Kofi Obiri Yeboah, has attributed the devastating fire outbreak at Adum in the Ashanti Region to poor urban planning and political interference.
He stressed that congestion in central business districts and unregulated developments continue to hinder emergency response efforts.
Speaking on Channel One Newsroom, the MP lamented that political considerations often take precedence over enforcing proper planning regulations. He noted that the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) struggled to access the fire scene due to blocked roads, making it difficult to contain the blaze swiftly.
“In developing our cities, we must remove political influences. The fire officers got there early, but there was no access for them to operate. Sometimes, people build where they shouldn’t, and when you try to correct it, they threaten not to vote for you,” he stated.
Yeboah called for urgent reforms in urban development policies, stressing that failure to act decisively will continue to put lives and businesses at risk.
