The fire service in the Ashanti region is still battling fires. This is the third day of a major fire outbreak at the Blue Light Arena in Adum, Kumasi.
The fire disaster occurred on Friday. It has drawn several government officials to support affected traders. Many traders have lost goods worth millions of cedis.
On Sunday, Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection Naa Momo Lartey visited the scene. She was accompanied by MASLOC CEO Abigail Elorm Mensah and the Ashanti regional minister.
Naa Momo Lartey addressed the media about plans to help traders. She noted that many people are affected, especially women. Many homes have been impacted by this disaster.
"We are putting things together to aid them," she said. "This support will not fully reinstate them but will provide startup money."
She urged people not to take advantage of others' misfortunes. She also cautioned against spreading false information about the incident.
"This is not the right time for agendas," she stated. "Only insensitive people would do that."
According to her, the structural integrity of affected buildings needs attention. "Even without technical knowledge, you can see these buildings are unsafe," she explained.
Abigail Elorm Mensah assured traders that they will receive government support during this crisis. "We will help all affected traders—both men and women," she said.
A devastating fire destroyed three-story buildings last Friday at Adum Blue Light Arena. Traders are still assessing their losses as fires continue to burn.
Security and fire personnel remain on-site to control the flames.
