The Minority Caucus in Parliament is urging the government to rebuild the Adum Market. The market was recently destroyed by a fire. This incident has greatly impacted the traders' livelihoods. Immediate government action is necessary.
The fire occurred on Friday, March 21. It destroyed many shops and goods worth millions of Ghana cedis. Many traders are now devastated by this loss.
On Monday, April 14, Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin visited the affected traders. He donated 200,000 GHS to support them during this difficult time.
The caucus also asked the government to release funds from the Contingency Fund for victims. Afenyo-Markin expressed empathy for the traders' situation. He promised that the Minority would raise this issue in Parliament.
He made a plea to the government for immediate assistance. "The traders are suffering," he said. He urged the government to use contingency funds without delay.
Afenyo-Markin believes that if committed, the government can rebuild the market within a year.
