The National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) has clarified that the relief items presented to victims of the Adum fire outbreak were provided by NADMO and officially handed over by Interior Minister Muntaka Mubarak on their behalf.
This follows reports that some affected traders rejected the food aid, chanting “We don’t want rice” during the minister’s visit on March 26.
Addressing the media, NADMO Director-General Major (Rtd) Dr. Joseph Bikanyi Kuyon explained that since NADMO operates under the Interior Ministry, it was appropriate for the minister to make the presentation.
He urged traders to remain patient as authorities work on long-term solutions. Meanwhile, the BlueLight Traders Association has apologized for the behavior of some members.
The March 21 fire destroyed multiple shops, leaving traders in urgent need of assistance.
