Adventist SHS Shooting: Students Demand Headmistress's Interdiction
Some students at the Seventh-Day Adventist Senior High School are calling for their headmistress's interdiction. This follows a shooting incident on April 4 that injured two students.
Students expressed their concerns to YEN.com.gh, demanding a thorough investigation into the school's security measures. They questioned how a student could bring a gun onto campus despite having security personnel present.
One student, Suzi Adwoa Penamang, is at risk of losing her sight due to her injuries. She was hit by a stray bullet fired accidentally by another student during an argument about the gun's authenticity.
The shooter, a second-year student, mistakenly pulled the trigger during this altercation. According to Penamang’s family member, Kobby Clement, doctors confirmed she may face permanent blindness in her right eye.
Penamang’s left eye is also affected and requires ongoing medical care. The family has been advised to seek regular checkups after receiving medication from doctors at Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital.
In response to the incident, school management visited Penamang at home and donated GHS1,500 for her treatment. Bantama MP Francis Asenso Boakye also helped by covering her hospital bills and offered further support for future expenses.
Police investigations into the shooting are ongoing. Attempts to reach the headmistress and the Regional Public Relations Officer of the Ghana Education Service for comments were unsuccessful.
Additionally, Nhyira FM journalist Nana Kwadwo Jantuah threatened legal action against both the Ghana Education Service and Adventist SHS over their handling of the situation. He criticized authorities for showing little concern regarding Penamang's condition.
