Former New Patriotic Party (NPP) MP Sarah Adwoa Safo is frustrated. The party's disciplinary committee did not inform her about a postponed hearing.
She was summoned after comments on JoyNews’ The Pulse show. Party leaders saw these comments as violating a directive against discussing internal issues.
Adwoa Safo arrived at the NPP headquarters in Accra on April 7, ready for her hearing. Supporters came to show their support before she arrived.
Upon arrival, she found no committee meeting was taking place. Instead, only one party official was present.
Adwoa Safo expressed her frustration over the lack of communication. She received a summons letter on Sunday but wasn't informed of any changes.
“There was no committee sitting today,” she said. “I had an engagement with a national officer, but no hearing happened.”
She questioned why she wasn’t personally informed about the change. “Some of you have my number directly,” she added.
She emphasized that the party should handle such matters professionally. “We need to take these matters more seriously,” she stated.
“I came here ready for the meeting, but there’s no explanation.” She felt this situation could have been managed better.
As a lawyer, she noted that being summoned implies wrongdoing and potential discipline. “Why ridicule me publicly if there’s no committee?” she asked.
“The public thinks I’ve done something wrong,” she continued. “I’m here, but there’s no one to address my case.”
Adwoa Safo found it disheartening to be treated this way. She reaffirmed her commitment to the party and willingness to attend future hearings.
“I will be available whenever I’m called upon,” she confirmed.
