President Mahama Launches Adwumawura Programme Initiative
President John Dramani Mahama announced the launch of the Adwumawura Programme Initiative. He emphasized that this event would not be a grand celebration like in previous years. The initiative is fully funded by the Ministry of Finance in the 2025 budget.
At the launch held at Prempeh Assembly Hall in Kumasi, President Mahama stated that the program aims to create jobs. He believes that youth deserve opportunities and support for their growth. His government is committed to stimulating youth employment across the nation.
The initiative targets about 10,000 young people each year for four years. It will provide access to funding, coaching, and mentorship from established business owners. This support aims to help these businesses grow successfully.
The Adwumawura Programme will partner with NEIP to acquire necessary machines and equipment. It will also offer comprehensive business advisory services for market access. The selection process will include youth from Vocational Schools, Tertiary institutions, and SHS leavers.
President Mahama stressed equal opportunity for all participants. About 60% of beneficiaries will come from unemployed youth, women, disabled individuals, and rural areas. This approach aims to contribute positively to global youth employment indicators.
Key figures attended the launch, including Eric Adjei from NEIP. He outlined the program’s mission and vision for youth development. Adjei described it as a commitment to helping young people realize their dreams.
“This is more than just a program; it’s a lifeline,” he said. Under President Mahama's leadership, no dream is too small or insignificant. The initiative continues Mahama’s legacy of empowering youth since 2014 through the Youth Enterprise Support Fund.
NEIP has already assisted thousands of young entrepreneurs in starting their businesses. Eric Adjei highlighted several key interventions under NEIP's umbrella. These include the Presidential Innovation Challenge aimed at fostering innovation among youth.
He also mentioned programs supporting women and persons with disabilities for inclusive economic development. “Through partnerships with various stakeholders, we aim to transform youth entrepreneurship in Ghana,” he declared.
Minister George Opare Addo emphasized this moment's significance in Ghana's history during his speech at the launch. He noted that today marks an official start for empowering 10,000 young entrepreneurs under President Mahama’s vision.
The minister praised Mahama’s unwavering support for youth empowerment initiatives and resources needed for success. Nana Okyere Kusi Ntrama represented Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II at the event and welcomed President Mahama warmly.
He called this initiative a timely opportunity for Ghanaian youth and affirmed its importance in achieving success together with them. The Adwumawura Program represents one step towards transforming narratives around entrepreneurship in Ghana.
With government support fostering an environment conducive to growth, young entrepreneurs have a bright future ahead. As this program takes root, youths are encouraged to seize opportunities actively shaping their futures into tangible successes.
