President Mahama Launches Adwumawura Programme Initiative
President John Dramani Mahama announced the launch of the Adwumawura Programme Initiative. He emphasized that this event would not be a grand celebration like in previous years. The initiative is fully funded by the Ministry of Finance in the 2025 budget.
At the launch held at Prempeh Assembly Hall in Kumasi, President Mahama stated that the program aims to create jobs. He believes that young people deserve opportunities and support. His government is committed to boosting youth employment through nationwide initiatives.
The program targets about 10,000 youths each year for four years. It will provide access to funding, coaching, and mentorship from established business owners. This support aims to help these businesses grow successfully.
President Mahama highlighted that the Adwumawura Programme will partner with NEIP. They plan to acquire machines and equipment for businesses. Comprehensive business advisory services will also be provided to aid growth.
The selection process will include youth from Vocational Schools, Tertiary institutions, and SHS leavers. About 60% of beneficiaries will come from unemployed youth, women, disabled individuals, and rural areas. This approach aims to improve global youth employment indicators.
The launch was a significant moment for Ghana's economic future. Key figures attended, including Eric Adjei from NEIP, who discussed the program’s mission for youth development. He stressed that this initiative is more than just a policy; it’s a commitment to empower young people.
Adjei described it as a lifeline for many youths with big dreams facing challenges. Under President Mahama's leadership, he assured that no dream is too small or insignificant.
The Adwumawura Program continues President Mahama’s legacy of youth empowerment started in 2014 with the Youth Enterprise Support Fund. This has evolved into NEIP, which has already helped thousands of young entrepreneurs start their businesses.
Adjei mentioned several key interventions by NEIP aimed at promoting innovation among youths. These include the Presidential Innovation Challenge focusing on green entrepreneurship and programs supporting women and persons with disabilities.
He emphasized collaboration with development partners and industry players as crucial for success in this initiative. The launch also showcased other NEIP programs promoting agricultural innovation and school gardens for cultivating entrepreneurship from an early age.
Minister George Opare Addo highlighted the importance of this moment in Ghana's history during his speech at the launch. He noted that today marks the official start of empowering 10,000 young entrepreneurs under President Mahama’s vision.
He praised President Mahama’s ongoing support for youth development and resources needed for their success. Nana Okyere Kusi Ntrama represented Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II at the event and welcomed President Mahama warmly.
Ntrama called this initiative a timely opportunity for Ghanaian youth and reaffirmed its significance as a promise made by President Mahama.
The Adwumawura Program represents one step towards transforming youth entrepreneurship in Ghana. With government support fostering growth opportunities, young entrepreneurs can look forward to a bright future ahead.
As this program takes root, youths are encouraged to seize these opportunities actively shaping their futures into tangible successes while contributing to an inclusive economy.
