Minority Leader in Parliament, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, has denied endorsing the NDC. He called a recent media report a gross misrepresentation of his remarks.
In a letter dated May 2, 2025, he expressed his displeasure to Joy FM’s Super Morning Show. The headline read: “NDC is a sellable brand – Afenyo-Markin commends ruling party’s rebranding effort.”
Afenyo-Markin stated that the headline is inaccurate. It creates a false impression of his comments. He said it misrepresents his intent and exposes him to unfair criticism.
The Effutu MP clarified that his comments were analytical. They aimed to highlight political branding's importance over individual candidates. He used examples from Keta and Effutu to illustrate this point.
He explained that in Keta, an NDC candidate might win due to the party's brand appeal. This was not an endorsement but rather political analysis.
Although Joy FM removed the headline after his complaint, Afenyo-Markin noted the damage was done. Other media platforms had already circulated the misleading story.
He is demanding a full retraction of the headline and a corrected version of his remarks. He also wants a written apology from the editorial team.
Afenyo-Markin emphasized that media has great influence on public opinion. Therefore, they must report fairly and responsibly. He urged Joy FM to uphold high standards as a reputable media institution.
