Afenyo‑Markin petitions IGP to probe Constable Forson for assaulting him

The Minority Leader in Ghana’s Parliament, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, has made a formal request. He asked the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) to investigate an alleged assault. This incident occurred during the “Save the Judiciary” demonstration.

The officer involved is Constable Forson. He is described as tall, fair, and heavily built. Forson was assigned to provide security at Parliament House during the protest.

Afenyo-Markin claims that Constable Forson physically assaulted him at the entrance. He believes this incident requires immediate disciplinary action.

The alleged assault has raised concerns due to the event's high profile. Many senior officials were present during the demonstration. In his petition, Afenyo-Markin stated, “Constable Forson assaulted me at the entrance of Parliament House.”

To address what he calls “misleading narratives,” Afenyo-Markin issued a public statement. This statement outlines his version of events surrounding the incident. He wrote in his petition, “To correct misleading narratives… I have issued a public statement detailing the events.”

This attached statement aims to provide a clearer account for any investigation or administrative action that may follow. The goal is to ensure transparency and accountability in handling this matter.

In closing, Afenyo-Markin expressed confidence in the IGP’s office. He expects them to treat this issue with seriousness and urgency. “Counting on your usual cooperation,” he wrote, indicating his hope for prompt and fair action.
