Afenyo-Markin slams alleged camera bias in Parliament, calls for professionalism

Minority Leader Alexander Kwamena Afenyo-Markin has raised concerns about camera coverage in Parliament. He described it as biased and unprofessional.

Afenyo-Markin spoke on the floor after a cameraman zoomed in on him. This happened when he removed his shoe due to discomfort. He felt the focus on his feet was unnecessary and politically motivated.

He noted, "I am happy the Clerk has just entered." He pointed out that the cameraman only focused on the Majority Leader when he was speaking.

"If a cameraman would deliberately take shots of my feet, that's wrong," Afenyo-Markin said. He warned that if they want to play politics with the camera, it won't be accepted.

He criticized this act as unprofessional and partisan. Such targeted filming undermines decorum in the chamber, he stated. “If the cameraman is doing partisan politics, he must be cautioned,” he added.

Afenyo-Markin called for fairness in parliamentary coverage. No Member of Parliament should be ridiculed or used for political gain, he emphasized.

"Nobody should take it personally," he said. "Tomorrow it will be you," he cautioned fellow members about these behaviors.

He concluded by urging all media personnel to maintain professionalism while covering Parliament. The integrity of parliamentary proceedings must always be safeguarded, he insisted.
