Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak is the MP for Asawase Constituency. He is also the Minister of Interior. Recently, he criticized Minority Leader Alexander Kwamina Afenyo-Markin.
Muntaka Mubarak said Afenyo-Markin often ignores parliamentary rules. He claimed Afenyo-Markin speaks without following proper procedures.
Muntaka compared Afenyo-Markin's behavior to that of a spoiled child. He said it seems like a child who has lost their food.
On June 3, 2025, Muntaka spoke in Parliament. He expressed concern about Afenyo-Markin's actions after a committee referral.
He stated, “Mr Speaker, my worry is clear. After you refer something to the committee, no member should speak on it.”
Muntaka emphasized that arguments should be made in the committee only. The debate happens when the report comes back.
He added that Afenyo-Markin was turning House rules upside down. “He gets up and speaks however he wishes,” Muntaka noted.
He urged for order and respect for parliamentary rules. “Mr Speaker, let us get him to act properly,” he concluded.
In another instance, Speaker Alban Bagbin rebuked Afenyo-Markin months ago. This was regarding how the Budget Statement should be presented.
Bagbin stated that Parliament shouldn't be about who shouts louder. He clarified that procedures must be followed during presentations.
“The estimates of revenue and expenditure must be presented as a statement,” Bagbin explained.
He cautioned Afenyo-Markin against shouting in Parliament: “This is not a shouting battle.”
The format of any statement can only be decided during formal sittings, he added.
