Sheila Minkah-Premo, Convener of the Affirmative Action Law Coalition, has called for the establishment of a Gender Equity Committee under the Ministry of Gender and Social Protection to ensure the effective implementation of the Affirmative Action Law.
Speaking at an International Women’s Day event organized by the National Association of Local Authorities of Ghana (NALAG), she emphasized the committee’s role in enforcing the law at both national and local levels.
NALAG President Alfred Asiedu Adjei highlighted the slow progress toward gender parity, referencing a World Economic Forum report that estimates it will take 130 years to achieve full gender equity.
The event, held on March 12, 2025, honored women who have served in local governance for over 16 years.
