The 2025 Africa Land Forces Summit began in Accra on Monday, April 7. Military leaders from over 50 countries attended. They gathered to discuss security concerns like cyber threats and violent extremism.
Ghana’s Defence Minister, Edward Omane Boamah, represented President John Dramani Mahama at the opening. He stressed the need for collective action against evolving global threats.
“This platform allows our land forces and partners to respond together,” he said. He highlighted the importance of intelligence sharing and joint planning.
The summit is one of the largest military gatherings in Africa. It includes participants from over 40 African nations, plus delegations from the U.S. and Europe.
Dignitaries at the event included U.S. Ambassador Virginia Palmer and Ghana’s Chief of Defence Staff Major General William Agyapong. The ceremony followed a symbolic change of guard at Jubilee House.
