Ghana's Attorney-General, Godfred Yeboah Dame, has called for stronger democracy across Africa to support the International Criminal Court (ICC).
Speaking at the 23rd session of the Assembly of States Parties to the Rome Statute in The Hague, Dame stressed that a solid democratic framework ensures citizens' rights and helps prevent issues like genocide, war crimes, and crimes against humanity, which the ICC addresses.
He highlighted the importance of building strong justice systems in African nations to handle such cases domestically, reducing the need for international intervention.
Dame concluded that practicing true democracy and establishing effective legal systems would eliminate conditions that lead to ICC involvement, fostering accountability and human rights.
