African Trade Ministers meet to respond to Trump’s tariff threat

African Trade Ministers will meet on Monday, April 14, 2025. They will discuss new tariffs announced by US President Donald Trump.

President Trump has suspended the implementation of these tariffs. However, Wamkele Mene, Secretary General of the African Continental Free Trade Area, sees this as a wake-up call for Africa.

Mene believes it is time for African nations to boost intra-Africa trade. He stated, “The president of the United States has given a wake-up call.”

He emphasized the need to accelerate self-sufficiency in Africa. The trade ministers will decide how to respond to this situation during their meeting.
