Dr. Bossman Asare, Deputy Commissioner of the Electoral Commission (EC), has dismissed the recent Afrobarometer report, describing it as inconsistent.
Speaking to Roland Walker on TV3, Dr. Asare criticized the report for presenting conflicting narratives, noting that in 2020, it highlighted strong public confidence in the EC’s fairness during elections.
He questioned whether Ghanaians truly distrust the EC, referencing a separate Electoral Integrity project, which ranked Ghana’s EC fifth globally with a 70% quality score for 2024.
Afrobarometer’s findings, however, paint a different picture. Public trust in the EC has plummeted to 28% ahead of the December 7 elections, compared to 59% in 2012.
The poll also noted growing concerns about corruption within the Commission, raising alarm over its credibility.
