Ag. GHEL CEO takes office; pledges to bring the company back to its glory days

Mutalib Awal is the new Acting Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Ghana Heavy Equipment Limited (GHEL). He aims to restore the company to its former glory.

Mr. Awal spoke during a handing-over ceremony in Accra on April 22. He expressed his commitment to improving GHEL's fortunes.

He stated, "I accept this role as a national duty." His goal is to revive and reposition GHEL for Ghana’s industrial transformation.

"GHEL has a proud legacy," he continued. "We are ready to write a bold new chapter." He assured all partners that GHEL is back with purpose.

To boost economic growth, Mr. Awal emphasized job creation for Ghanaians, especially youth. He noted that GHEL shares the government's vision of a 24-hour economy.

GHEL will provide round-the-clock access to essential equipment services. This will start in key agricultural and industrial areas like Ejura and Techiman.

Mr. Awal also mentioned partnerships with public and private sectors for support in various operations. These include infrastructure, mining, agriculture, and sanitation.

He highlighted plans to invest in digital infrastructure for maintenance and equipment tracking. This will ensure rapid response support at all hours.

Mr. Awal reaffirmed GHEL's readiness to collaborate with ministries like Lands and Natural Resources. The focus will be on responsible use of heavy machinery in various sectors.

GHEL will also support initiatives for equipment monitoring and sustainable mining practices. Additionally, they plan to assist local authorities with equipment leasing and training services.

"Our mechanization hubs will create jobs in local communities," Mr. Awal said confidently.

He recognizes agricultural mechanization as vital for food security. GHEL aims to expand access to tractors and farm implements through various models.

"We will work with farmer associations to empower youth," he added, ensuring every district has quality equipment.

Mr. Awal sees GHEL as more than just a service provider; it’s a partner in Ghana’s progress. "We are building a new generation of technicians and operators," he stated.

As he takes on this role, he invites collaboration from all sectors: ministries, agencies, private partners, and civil society organizations.

Former Ag CEO Abass Ridwan Dauda offered his support to Mr. Awal during the transition period. Before this role, Mr. Dauda was the board chairman of GHEL and served as an MP for Sissala East.
