Dr. Peter Boamah Otokunor is the Director of Presidential Initiatives in Agriculture and Agribusiness. He has addressed concerns about recent protests over MMDCE nominations. These protests involved National Democratic Congress (NDC) supporters in Asante Mampong, Talensi, and Tema.
On April 14, Dr. Otokunor spoke on Channel One Newsroom. He described the reactions as typical for Ghana’s political climate during government changes. "This is not news," he said, noting that such agitations often occur with new administrations.
He pointed out that this year’s nomination process has improved significantly. Nominees from 13 regions received full endorsements without any rejections. "The process has been exceedingly smooth from beginning to end," he stated.
Dr. Otokunor credited this success to a rigorous selection process under President John Dramani Mahama's leadership. He mentioned that isolated incidents of unrest were expected but not indicative of broader issues.
He stressed that decisions at the Presidency would not be swayed by panic or personal feelings. The unrest in some areas arises from unfounded fears rather than valid concerns. "You cannot depend on anybody's fear to make a decision," he concluded.
