Businessman Seidu Agongo has accused the Akufo-Addo administration of persecution. He claims this has lasted for eight years. He describes the government's actions as "backward" and discriminatory, driven by prejudice and political motives.
On the Master of the Game show, hosted by Kwasi Kyei Darkwah on CTV, Mr. Agongo shared his experience. He faced a long court battle after supplying liquid fertiliser. This fertiliser had been successfully used under the same government that later prosecuted him.
"I was in court for eight years," he said. "I supplied liquid fertiliser used three times." During its use, there were no problems reported. Nearly two million litres were distributed to Ghanaian farmers without issue.
Mr. Agongo believes his troubles began when the New Patriotic Party (NPP) took office. He implied that their interest in prosecuting him was politically motivated. “It was only after the change in government that you realised I had a bank,” he stated.
He suggested they wanted to collapse his bank due to these motives. Mr. Agongo argued that this persecution stems from regressive thinking. It judges people based on names, origins, and family backgrounds instead of merit.
“When leadership judges you based on your grandfathers or name, it’s backward thinking,” he said. “This does not resonate well with modern society.” He stressed the need for open-minded leadership focused on ability and integrity.
Mr. Agongo believes no one should be judged by their past or background. The Akufo-Addo government has denied claims of political persecution before. They insist all prosecutions are based on due process and evidence.
