Agortime Kpetoe residents get 2 mechanised boreholes to curb water scarcity

Residents of Agortime Kpetoe in the Volta region now have access to mechanised boreholes. These two boreholes were commissioned on May 17, 2025. Engineer Joshua Kavianu and his brother Jeff Kavianu, a former MP, led the initiative. This project aims to improve access to clean drinking water. It addresses ongoing water challenges and recent pollution of a community stream.

In an interview with Class News, Engineer Joshua Kavianu called the project fulfilling. He said it would serve future generations if properly maintained. “This milestone is born from necessity and compassion,” he stated. He emphasized that the borehole is a lifeline for residents facing health and productivity issues.

Joshua noted that many communities in Ghana face similar water challenges. “Our children fall sick without clean water,” he explained. Schools and clinics also suffer due to this lack of access. He expressed pride in partnering with the community for development.

He urged the central government to prioritize water infrastructure in rural areas. “Clean water should not be a privilege for urban areas,” he said. Mr. Kavianu called on agencies like the Ghana Water Company to address these needs sustainably.

He encouraged residents to maintain the borehole for future generations. “Take care of it so it serves many unborn,” he urged them. He hopes this achievement will inspire national commitment to water security across Ghana.

Alfred Klu Odikro, the District Chief Executive (DCE), thanked the Kavianu family for their support. He assured that the government is committed to providing water supply in rural communities like Agotime Ziope.

The DCE promised proper maintenance of the project for community benefit. He also urged other institutions to support developmental projects in the district.

Assembly members pledged to maintain and protect the facility as well. Ghana's goals focus on equitable access to safe drinking water by 2030, as outlined in Sustainable Development Goal 6.1.

Nene Akoto-Sah VII, representing the Paramount Chief, urged residents to use and maintain the facility well. He encouraged landowners to support development efforts in their area.

The community thanked the Kavianu family for their timely assistance in addressing these challenges.
