Agriculture no longer an afterthought – Mahama as he launches ‘Feed Ghana’

President John Dramani Mahama has launched the ‘Feed Ghana Programme.’ This initiative aims to transform agriculture and strengthen Ghana’s economy.

Mr. Mahama spoke at the launch in Techiman on April 12. He stressed the need for decisive action in agriculture. “We must no longer treat agriculture as an afterthought,” he said.

The Feed Ghana Programme is part of a larger strategy called AETA. This agenda seeks to modernize agriculture, create jobs, and ensure food security.

Mr. Mahama explained that this programme will guide all agricultural projects in Ghana. It focuses on increasing food production and promoting modern farming practices. It also aims to improve agricultural infrastructure and establish agro-industrial zones.

He addressed global changes due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Rising protectionism and trade tensions require new national food strategies, he warned.

“Since the onset of COVID-19, the world has shifted,” Mr. Mahama noted. He emphasized that the Feed Ghana Programme shows his government’s commitment to agriculture.

“It represents a bold commitment to put our resources where our ambitions lie,” he concluded.
