Residents of Kwaku Nyumah in the Ahafo Region need urgent help. They want the Tano Bridge fixed. The bridge has become a death trap, especially during the rainy season. It cuts them off from essential services.
The wooden bridge connects them to Norbekaw. This connection is vital for schools, health centers, and markets. However, the bridge is weak and unreliable when it rains. The Tano River often swells and submerges the bridge, isolating the community.
“It’s a death trap,” said Mr. Kantor Samuel, the Community Secretary. “Our children can’t go to school. We can’t access healthcare. Farmers lose their produce because we can’t transport it.”
Residents have suffered in silence for years, hoping for help. “We are suffering,” a frustrated farmer told reporters. “When it rains, we can't cross, and our food rots.”
The deteriorating bridge makes daily activities risky. Residents must find alternative routes or wade through dangerous waters.
In response, Hon. Asabre Donkor Benjamin, the District Chief Executive for Asutifi South, acknowledged their plight. He admitted that they lack resources to rebuild the bridge. However, he promised to work with Hon. Alhaji Collins Dauda, their Member of Parliament, to prioritize this project.
