On June 2, 2025, a joint anti-galamsey operation took place. The Mankranso District Police and Ahafo Ano South West District Assembly led the effort. They targeted illegal mining in Mpasaaso and Achiase areas.
During the operation, many miners fled upon seeing the security team. They left behind various items and heavy equipment. The search resulted in several seizures.
Authorities confiscated one CAL 9mm pistol with three live rounds. They also seized four pump-action guns, twelve BB cartridges, and five AA cartridges. Additionally, five excavators were taken as evidence.
The police are keeping the seized items for further investigation. They aim to apprehend fleeing miners and dismantle illegal mining networks. In a statement on June 4, they confirmed that the firearms are stored at the Mankranso District Police Command.
The Regional Police Command praised all involved in this successful operation. They urged the public to provide credible information for arrests and prosecutions related to illegal mining activities.
