Minister Samuel Nartey George has condemned the AirtelTigo acquisition. He called those responsible “enemies of the state” and unpatriotic.
Speaking to journalists in Parliament, he questioned the decision to buy a debt-ridden company for just one dollar. He noted that this led to discovering significant financial liabilities.
George stated, “Those who managed the AirtelTigo process are enemies of our state.” He highlighted that after taking over, they found a bill from American Tower Company (ATC) for 1.5 billion Ghana Cedis.
He mentioned discussions with representatives from the American Embassy. They revealed that AirtelTigo's total debt exceeds 3.5 billion Ghana Cedis.
George asked, “If someone said they bought it for 1 dollar, who will pay the 1.3 billion accumulating interest?”
