Health Minister Kwabena Mintah Akandoh has urged the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA) to end their strike. He wants them to return to negotiations to address their concerns.
The appeal came during his tour of health facilities. He aimed to assess how the strike affects healthcare delivery. The strike began on Wednesday, May 28, due to the government's failure to implement a 2024 collective agreement.
On Thursday, June 5, the Minister spoke with the media. He acknowledged the nurses’ concerns but emphasized patient wellbeing. “We must put patients first,” he said.
He expressed doubt that a strike would resolve the issue. “We need to sit around the table and find a solution,” he added.
However, GRNMA insists that the strike will continue. They demand full implementation of agreed terms of service. This situation has caused significant disruptions in public health services nationwide.
