Akatsi South Assembly launches major sanitation drive to restore market hygiene and boost local economy

The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Akatsi South, Hon. Daniel Dagba, led a clean-up operation at the Akatsi Market. This effort aimed to improve hygiene, public health, and the local economy.

The operation addressed years of waste and overgrown vegetation. It marked a significant change for the neglected market. Key stakeholders joined the initiative, including Torgbui Azadagli III and other municipal officials.

Teams began work at dawn with waste collection trucks and tools. They cleared heaps of refuse from the market area. This clean-up is part of the Assembly's commitment to enhance cleanliness and safety.

Hon. Dagba spoke to journalists about the market's importance. He emphasized that hygienic conditions are crucial for traders and customers. “This market is the heartbeat of our local economy,” he stated.

He added that it is unacceptable for women to work in unsanitary conditions. The clean-up marks a pledge to make the market safe for everyone.

Market women and residents welcomed the effort with relief and gratitude. Many described the clean-up as long overdue.

Hon. Dagba assured that this would not be a one-time event. The Assembly will implement a routine sanitation schedule moving forward. They will also enforce environmental bylaws for lasting change.

He urged residents and traders to support responsible waste disposal practices. Participation in future communal clean-ups is encouraged.

The Akatsi South Municipal Assembly remains focused on development goals. They prioritize sanitation, infrastructure, and public health to improve the municipality.
